Taylor Swift unveils video for her new single ‘Look What You Made Me Do’

Dark vibes, malicious lyrics: here is “Tay Tay” unusual comeback

We all thought she needed a longer break from music, but we were wrong: Taylor Swift is back. She released a new single on Thursday, Look What You Made Me Do, taken from her forthcoming album Reputation.

Yesterday, the american popstar dropped the video for the song during the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards and… it is worth a talk: starting in a cemetery, Taylor emerges from the grave of her reputation. The whole video, directed by her frequent collaborator Joseph Khan, is a dark self-parody of her life, full of achievements of course, but also full of gossip.

Look What You Made Me Do is the story of a resurrection of a young woman who played different roles: in the video Taylor looks like a confident dark lady, surrounded by snakes, who’s pursuing revenge but… against who? As many times before, the song sounds like an accusation to one of her ex boyfriends who, somehow, made her appear publicly as the only guilty party for the end of her relationships.

The singer-songwriter is clearly tired of people focusing on her personal life and her turning point is also confirmed by a very drastic choice: last week she deleted all of her personal shots from her social accounts, leaving only promotional pictures for her new single and album. In the song she also says: «I’m sorry, the old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now. Why? Oh! ‘Cause she’s dead.» So the message is clear: she wants us to talk about her music and nothing else.

After the success of 1989 it’s hard to tell how Taylor’s new album is going to sound like: this track tells us she’s not leaving her recent pop route, but also that we can expect a more modern touch from her new songs.

The cover for Reputation was unveiled last week: the album will be released on November 10 and we can’t wait for it.
