Exhibitions and classes to get creative on Valentine’s Day
No matter what your relationship status is but, with cinemas, theatres and concert venues closed, it’s hard to find something different to do on Valentine’s Day (apart from being with your partner, if you have one). If you’re tired of baking and watching TV, you can virtually visit an exhibition or join some online drawing classes.
The Charles M. Schulz Museum is a nonprofit organization dedicated to American cartoonist Charles M. Schulz (Minneapolis,1922 – Santa Rosa, 2000) one of the most influential artists of all time. Sounds familiar? He was the man behind the Peanuts, the comic strip that features some of your favorite characters like Snoopy and Charlie Brown.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the museum (located in Santa Rosa, California) arranged some online events you can enjoy from the comfort of your home.
From exhibitions to online classes, here’s a short list of activities you can do.
Hidden Treasures – Unseen Originals from the Collection
Based on a 2019 exhibition, this online presentation will give you access to more than 65 original comic strips by Charles. M. Schulz and much material from the Museum’s Archive. Also, you’ll listen to a behind-the-scenes commentary from his wife Jean, Museum Curator Benjamin L. Clark, Editorial Director Alexis Fajardo and Senior Artist from Schulz Creative Associates Justin Thompson.
Price: Free for members / $5 for Non-Members.
How to draw Peanuts
Single, taken or heartbroken, on Valentine’s Day you can enjoy drawing classes from the professionals, to recreate your favorite characters from Schulz’s comic strips. Want a glimpse? Schulz Creative Associates’ Staff Artist Mary Shyne will guide you through Snoopy’s canine family, while Cartoonist Robert W. Pope will teach you how to draw a perfect Charlie Brown.
All classes are available for temporary access.
